CarHistoryReport.ca ("we", "our", "us") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information in accordance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

  • VIN lookups: Vehicle Identification Numbers you enter for free decoding. These are not personal information about you.
  • Email addresses: When you join our waitlist or contact us.
  • Usage data: Anonymized analytics (page views, browser type, device, country). We do not track you across other websites.
  • Cookies: Essential cookies only. No advertising or tracking cookies.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide free VIN decoding and NHTSA recall data.
  • To notify you when full vehicle history reports launch (waitlist signups only).
  • To improve our service through aggregated analytics.
  • To respond to your inquiries.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

3. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services that may process limited data on our behalf:

  • Vercel (USA): Website hosting and anonymized request logs.
  • Supabase (USA): Database hosting for waitlist emails and VIN report caching.
  • NHTSA (US Government): Public vehicle safety data lookup (no personal data shared).
  • Transport Canada (Government of Canada): Public recall database lookup (no personal data shared).
  • AI Provider: AI-generated vehicle analysis (vehicle make/model/year only — no personal information shared).
  • Stripe (when paid reports launch): Payment processing under their privacy policy.

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on servers operated by Vercel (data centers in North America). We use industry-standard encryption (TLS) for all data in transit. We retain waitlist email addresses until you request deletion or until 24 months of inactivity.

5. Your Rights Under PIPEDA

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Request correction of inaccurate information.
  • Withdraw consent and have your information deleted.
  • File a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Our service is not intended for users under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
